When it comes to Character Creation, Cyberpunk 2077 works only with the most important aspects of a player’s character to define the experience. So, don’t rush in thinking that the choice of a Life Path for your character is minor or merely cosmetic.
Warning: This guide is based on the in-progress information available before the official release of the game. The guide will be updated as more information becomes available.
On the contrary, this choice will determine a major part of your initial gameplay and your dialog choices throughout the game. This choice will mark your starting location, your initial faction alliance, and will offer you some extra opportunities within quests and important story junctures. You will be familiar with different people, will be involved with a different faction, and will even be set for completing the main story in a certain way (although you can switch your alliances at any moment).
Want to know what you are in for? We will guide you through the available options and how they will affect your Cyberpunk 2077 experience.
“Roaming the Badlands, looting scrapyards, raiding fuel depots – life on the road wasn’t easy. But growing up in a nomad clan has its perks. Honesty, integrity, and a love of freedom – qualities that few in Night City possess, and no amount of money can buy.”
We don’t know much about the Nomad Life Path in Cyberpunk 2077 yet, but what we do know is that your questing and exploration will begin in the Badlands, the territory on the outskirts of the Night City. Life is particularly hard off the grid, but you managed to make it within your “tribe,” living in cats and doing various jobs for fixers and the city folk. Unlike the two other factions, you will not be affiliated with the major conflict at hand right away, but you will have some unique associations under your belt.
“They say if you wanna understand the streets, you gotta live ’em. Gongs, fixers, dolls, small-time pushers – you were raised by them all. Down here the law of the jungle dictates the weak serve the strong – the only law in Night City you have yet to break.”
The Street Kid Life Path will be all about the Streets. We don’t know too much about this Background yet, but based on what we know about the Night City you will most likely be intuitively familiar with the city life, its fixers, its laws, gangs, and its secrets, which will come in handy quite often as you progress through the game. Even before meeting Silverhand you will know who the big heads are, who the Corporate people are, and know to distrust them and their methods.
“Few leave the corporate world with their loves – fewer still with their souls intact. You’ve been there – you’ve bent the rules, exploited secrets, and weaponized information. There’s no such thing as a fair game, only winners and losers.”
Even though we don’t know everything about how the Corporate Life Path will function in the final version of Cyberpunk 2077, we get an example of what Corpos can be like in the original demo for the game. We meet an agent from the megacorporation known as Militech. Her exact view on how the Night City hierarchy works is, “only the Corp gets what it wants.” Yet, it’s reasonable to expect that in the war that Corporates, NetWatch, VooDoo Boys, and others wage over the control of Cyberspace this assumption will get a little more complicated.
